Starting up in a global technology competition, six girls from different universities meet each other, and they incredibly formed a team, Cambodian Women in Technology (CamWIT), to join TechnovationChallenge 2014.
Vath Phalla is the team leader of CamWIT, and she works as coder with her members, Em Phalla and Chea Daly. Iv Rachna and Ngov Sokteang are both business plan writers while Siem Raksmey is a
designer.Among 35 countries in Technovation Challenge 2014, CamWIT is the first and only female Cambodia team to join Technovation Challenge by creating a useful mobile app, eResults. eResults is a mobile app for parents and students easily accessing to college information.
According to Vath Phalla,
Accessibility to college information is limited in academic study for them and other students.
This is why CamWIT invented eResults. With mutual of understanding and solidarity, the obstacle offered them more encouragement and lesson learned. They work closely together as siblings. As a team leader, Phalla described, “We are all busy with our study and work from Monday to Friday. So, we differentiate our work tasks and complete it at home because we have no time to sit and finish it together. On Saturday and Sunday, we meet up to collect and check our work together.”
To run their app successfully and smoothly, CamWIT will work on their proposal writing to get funds and corporation with universities in Cambodia. eResults will be only worked on university level for the first step since each university contains basic system database for student’s academic information for eResults. As a role-model to other Cambodian, Cam WIT also suggested, “Women can also create mobile apps like men. So, we refuse to think that women cannot make apps. Especially, all female students should participate in Technovation Challenge in the following years.”
